Bebi Electronics LED Anchor Light – Review

What can I say? It does what it says on the package – very bright, waterproof, reliable, low current consumption and with a nice automatic light-sensitive switch so we can switch on the light when we go ashore in the morning, and it is there shining brightly to guide us home in the evening.

It is simply built in PVC piping, which makes it very easy to install as all you need to do is buy a bit more piping to make any kind of bracket you like. This is how we did ours, the holes at the bottom are for drainage:

The black electrical tape is there to stop the two terminals from touching. The connectors were deliberately left open so that moisture doesn’t collect inside. Yes they get wet, but then they dry again. Much less chance of corrosion than if they sit wet. I also tried to cover the wires themselves with tape to reduce UV degradation on the wire insulation.

Available at a good price with rapid delivery from Bebi Electronics in Fiji

Update Sept 2012

During a big rainstorm in Greece, the lights died. Then they came to life again. Then they intermittently flashed on and off. Then they died again.

At first I thought it was some water in the wiring somewhere. But ultimately it turned out that the unit had, in fact died. Real nuisance. But once I got back to Canada I contacted Bebi and they sent me a replacement unit with no questions. Excellent service. I guess it was just one of those things.

Interesting – my Bebi owl also failed after I was caught in an electrical storm. No water ingress at all – and did not get hit by lightning. But maybe they just don’t like strong electromagnetic fields.

Unfortunately Bebi no longer exist, so no replacement for me….
